Description
This is the earliest know existing photograph of the Jameson & Wotton Wharf, once known as the old Davis Wharf, shortly after it had been acquired by Sherman Jameson. It shows the original house at the beginning of the wharf and a commercial schooner tied up on the far side of the wharf.
The wharf had recently been extended by 100 feet at the behest of steamboat captain I. E. Archibald, who promised to make Friendship a stop along the way on his run from Rockland to Portland. This improvement to the wharf meant that it was now accessible at all tides.
